Two Tone Single Spiral Bracelet - Jewellery Making Tutorial

Difficulty: Intermediate

Rating:

Think of the way a medieval staircase follows a spiral shape with the steps attaching to a central core and you have the idea behind this very easy, yet attractive bracelet design. The bracelet is made up of a central core of beads with other beads stepping off of it and will naturally form the shape of a spiral as the work progresses. Let's stitch!

Materials used;

1 X 10G bag of size 8 seed beads - I used 8TRPF552 (Colour A - illustrated as the white circles in the diagrams)
1 X 10G bag of size 8 seed beads - I used 8TR332 (Colour B -  illustrated as the black circles in the diagrams)
1 X Lobster Clasp
1 X Jump Ring
1 X Nymo Beading Thread

Tips

Keep tension even throughout to enable the spiral to form neatly.
How about changing size 8's for size 6 or 11? This will change the thickness of the bracelet. Or perhaps try it with some sparkly Czech Firepolish?
For that extra special spiral, why not change one of the B contrast beads for a Drop bead or Long Magatama bead.

Please note that the colours for the products illustrated in the image above may not match the 'Products List'.

Step 1

Firstly, measure out approx. 2 - 3 metres of beading thread. Leaving an 8 - 10 inch tail for use later to attach a clasp, thread 8 beads onto the needle in the following combination: 1x A, 1x B, 1x A, 1x B, 1x A, 1x B, 1x A, 1x B.

Step 2

Now tie the beads into a circle and thread the needle up the first 4 beads to the left of the knot from the bottom of the beads.

Step 1

Step 3

Pull the thread tight so that you have 2 rows of 4 beads with the tail at the bottom and the thread coming out of the top bead on the left hand set of 4 beads as shown below.

Step 1

Step 4

Now push the needle down through the top of the first bead only on the set of 4 beads on the right hand side, bring the thread all the way through. You should now have 5 beads on the left (core beads) and 3 on the right. Turn the work around so that the core set are on the right hand side.

Step 1

Step 2

Step 5

Add 4 beads in the following combination 1x A, 1x B, 1x A, 1x B let the beads fall to the bottom of thread and then push the needle up through the top 3 core beads from the bottom of the 3rd bead as shown below.

Step 1

Step 2

Step 6

As before, push the needle down through the top of the first bead of those just added and pull the thread through. You should now have 6 core beads all of the same colour and 2 sets of 3 'staircase' beads. Slide the 'staircase' beads to the left side with your fingers so that the core is visible for the next row.

Step 7

Repeat steps 5 and 6 until the required length has been achieved. Remember, the longer the chain, the more beads you will need.

Step 8

Once you have achieved the correct length, add 2x B, 1 x soldered ring, 2x B, thread the needle through the beads and the soldered ring several times until secure and fasten off. Attach the needle to the tail thread and add 2x B, a soldered ring, 2x B. Repeat as for the clasp end and fasten off.

Step 9

Add the clasp to one of the soldered rings using a jump ring. Add a jump ring to the other soldered ring and you are finished.

You can create your own extension chain at this stage of you wish. Simpy keep adding jump rings to the 2nd soldered ring until you are happy with the length and perhaps add a favourite charm.
