Learn how to make this Tropical Sky Kumihimo Necklace using silver plated chain and Preciosa Czech fire polished beads in matt white and turquoise.

Step 1

You may prefer to keep the lobster clasp that comes with the CH27 silver plated chain.
If so, there will be no need to purchase the mini toggle clasp.
If you wish to change the clasp, cut the original clasp off and attach the two sections of toggle clasp using jumprings.

Step 2

Join the toggle clasp and find the centre point of the chain.
Cut the chain in half.
This is where the kumihimo design will fit.

Step 3

Cut 8 strands of thread each measuring approx. 30".
Wrap these around bobbins leaving a tail to thread your beads onto.
Thread 25 beads onto each thread.
You should have 4 threads of turquoise beads and 4 threads of white beads.

Step 4

Position one of each colour at the 4 points on your kumihimo board.

Step 5

Knot the threads together through the centre of the board.

Step 6

Braid approx. 1cm of the thread before starting to add the beads.

Step 7

Continue adding beads to your braid until you have used all of them.

Step 8

Finish by braiding another 1cm section with just thread, this will be glued into your cord ends.

Step 9

Glue along this section of braided thread so that it doesn't unravel.
Cut a point at the end of the braid so that it will easily go into the cord end.
Place the cord into the cord end when it is dry to see if it fits properly.
Add some more glue all the way down the 1cm of braided thread and push it into the cord end.
You may want to add a drop of glue around the base of the cord end to secure further.
Repeat for the other end of the kumihimo braid.

Step 10

Once you are happy that these are secure, attach jumprings to the loops on the cord ends.

Step 11

Loop the jumprings onto your chain that you cut earlier.
