SuperDuo Bauble Earrings - step by step jewellery making tutorial
Designed by: Paula Banaszak
Difficulty: Beginner
We invite you to a DIY course in which Paula Banaszak will show you how to make earrings with SuperDuo beads. Ball earrings are quite simple to make, and the end result is very cool. Twin-hole beads have probably won the hearts of handmade jewellery, and this is because you can conjure up miracles from them in almost every technique. See for yourself!
Materials needed to make earrings:
- Earwires - 16mm gold
- SuperDuo beads - in size 2.5x 5mm. Paula used Jet full sliperit beads.
- TOHO ™ round - in size 15 - Paula's Toho Round, PermaFinish-Galvanized Starlight beads.
- Jewellery thread - monofilament thread 0.2 m or fireline thread
- Jewellery needle - John James 10/13
- Scissors
Remember that the course is primarily used to learn the technique - you can use beads in completely different colours. There are many beads we stock, so surely everyone will find something for themselves :).
We encourage you to experiment, especially since the beads can also be used for other jewellery projects, e.g. necklaces :)
Step 1
On the thread with a length of 40-50cm we thread the sequences given in the photo. (1TR,1SD x5)
Step 2
Go back through all the beads, forming a circle.
Step 3
We tie a double knot and tighten it firmly. The creation of a "flower".
Step 4
We pass the needle through the beads so that the thread comes out of the bottom hole of the SuperDuo.
Step 5
We pass with a needle through the upper eyelet of our bead (from the same side from which the thread comes out).
Step 6
The bead from which the thread comes out belongs to our sequence. So we put the remaining beads on it (in a certain order) and pass through the SuperDuo.
Step 7
We go through the added lap again, the thread itself. We will do this every time.
Step 8
At the end of threading, we pass with a needle through the first bead of our lap, located just after the combination of two "flowers".
Step 9
We move to the upper hole.
Step 10
In the photo below, I have pointed with the needle to the gap between the two SuperDuo, in which there are 2 Toho beads. In this arrangement, we add in lap 1 toho bead between 2 SuperDuo. And we select the rest of the sequence. We pass through all the beads again (step 7-8). We pull the thread firmly.
Step 11
We pierce through the upper eyelet and repeat step 10.
Step 12
After the fourth lap, this is what needlework should look like. We repeat again step 10, making the fifth "flower". Do not forget to pass through all the added beads a second time, the thread itself.
Step 13
This is what 5 "flowers" look like. We pass to the upper hole of the bead, from which the thread comes out. Pulling the thread, we slowly begin to form the shape of the ball.
Step 14
In this agreement, we will have two breaks in a row (referred to in step 10). We add 1 Toho bead between the SuperDuo (as in the pictures) and the rest of our sequence. We pass through all the added beads again with the same thread (see step 7-9). We pull the thread firmly.
Step 15
This is what 6 "flowers" look like. We repeat step 14, creating the seventh lap.
Step 16
We have 7 "flowers". Again, we repeat step 14, creating lap 8.
Step 17
This is what 8 "flowers" look like. We repeat step 14 until there are 3 breaks (as in the photo in step 18)
Step 18
After some time of adding a lap, 3 breaks will be hit.
Step 19
We are acting as before. We add one Toho bead between superduo. This time it will be 3 times, not 2.
Step 20
Then we add the rest of the sequence. Remember to pull the thread quite firmly and re-thread the thread through the added beads.
Step 21
In the last lap, we will be left adding only Toho beads between SuperDuo. For the whole lap we pass again with the thread itself.
Step 22
At the end of the thread should come out of the toho bead.
Step 23
We thread on the needle 4 beads Toho, earwire, 4 beads Toho.
Step 24
We break through the bead from which the thread comes out (as in the photo).
Step 25
We pass again through the added beads and earwire.
Step 26
At the end, we pass through the bead from which the thread comes out.
Step 27
We pierce through several beads.
Step 28
Now to tie the thread, we pass a needle under the thread located in the "flower" (right at the place from which the thread comes out).
Step 29
We thread the needle through the loop.
Step 30
We tighten the knot firmly.
Step 31
We hide knots and thread in the beads.
Step 32
We cut off the excess thread.
Step 33
The tail at the beginning of the work we put on the needle and tie a knot in the same way. We cut off the excess.
Step 34
I hope you liked the ball earrings and soon there will be a real ball madness. As I know your creativity, you will apply them to many projects, including those that are not earrings. Good luck! Also show off your works of art on our facebook group.
