Make a shining soutache earrings using glitter cabochons.

Step 1

Glue the cabochon to a piece of felt. Trim the felt to the shape of your cabochon, don't cut too close to the stone, leave around 2/3mm. Leave the glue to dry for about 20minutes. Cut 20cm of each of your soutache cords.

Step 2

Wrap your first soutache braid around your stone. Cut your stitching thread into a comfortable length and tie a knot at one end. Sew close  to the top of the cabochon starting from the back. Fold the soutache braid in half, sew to the soutache (where the two cords meet) down the middle of the braid.

Step 3

Sew back into the soutache cord and the felt keeping in the middle of the braid. This will help hide the thread. Sew up from the back to the front close to the cabochon. Again, sew to the soutache in the middle of the braid. Sew back into the soutache cord in the middle of the braid and to the backing. Repeat the above all around the cabochon. Don't pull too tight or your soutache will curl.

Step 4

At the joining point, sew two soutache cords together to connect them. Sew back into the soutache of the first layer and into the backing. Wrap the soutache around the firs layer and stitch as in the previous steps all the way around. Repeat until you use all the strings up. Sew until all cords are connected together.

Step 5

Pick up and thread on a pearl bead. Wrap 5 soutaches around the bead. Sew to the five soutaches making sure they wrap around the bead neatly. Sew back into the five soutaches, the pearl and into the first two layers. Pull the thread firmly.

Step 6

Use your finger to hold the rest of the soutaches tightly in place at the back. Make sure the soutaches wrap around your bead. Sew to the five soutaches around the pearl counter clockwise. This is on a curve, so the outside soutache should be longer than the inside soutache.

Step 7

Sew the tail of the soutaches to the backing. Leave around 1/2inch before cutting the tail. Glue at the end of the soutaches to avoid fraying. Do the same on the other side. Pick up 2 seed beads, the ear wire and another 2 seed beads. And secure around the earring onto the felt and trim. Glue the felt to the back and leave to dry.
