Russian Spiral tutorial – a jewellery making course - PART 2
Designed by: Edyta Rogowska
Difficulty: Intermediate
Look how different the Russian Spiral bracelet looks when you use smaller beads.
Materials:
15/0 TOHO beads – I’ve chosen Permanent Finish Galvanized Aluminum – 10 g
and a small amount of 15/0 TOHO beads in a different colour – Metallic Nebula
11/0 TOHO Round beads in two colours:
-Inside-Color / Crystal-Neon Carnation Lined
-Inside-Color / Crystal-Neon Ice Blue Lined
Jewellery end caps – 7mm hole, stainless steel – 2 end caps
Jump rings – 2 x 7mm stainless steels split jump rings
Lobster clasp – 13 mm stainless steel clasp
Charm – a stainless steel moon
Jewellery threads – S-LON in a matching colour
Beading needle – a thin one, e.g. size 12 John James
Jewellery glue – e.g. Hasulith
Sharp scissors
Please note - End Caps have been substituted for glue in magnetic clasp due to stock levels.
Step 1
Start with making the narrow ending, as we did in the previous bracelet so that it will fit the endcaps. So…
String 12 15/0 TR beads in a sequence shown in the picture.
2 PFG Aluminum, 1 Metallic Nebula
2 PFG Aluminum, 1 Metallic Nebula
2 PFG Aluminum, 1 Metallic Nebula
2 PFG Aluminum, 1 Metallic Nebula
Step 2
Pass the needle through all the beads to make a circle.
Step 3
Pull the thread and pass through the 1st two beads.
Step 4
String 3 beads (1 Nebula and 2 PFG Aluminum) and pass the needle through the 1st silver bead just behind the blue one.
Repeat the 4th step 3 times until the end of the circle. Pull the thread so that the beads look like a rope.
Make two more rows.
If you want to use end caps with bigger holes you may resign from making this narrow part.
Step 5
As you have completed the beginning of the rope it’s time to make the main part of the bracelet. Replace 15/0 TR with pink and blue 11/0 TR.
String 1 pink 11/0 TR and 2 silver 15/0 TR and pass the needle through the 1st silver bead just behind the nearest blue one.
Step 6
Repeat the 5th step.
Step 7
String 3 beads (1 blue 11/0 TR and 2 silver 15/0 TR ) and pass the needle through the 1st silver bead just behind the nearest blue one.
Step 8
Repeat the 7th step.
Step 9
String 3 beads (1 pink 11/0 TR and 2 silver 15/0 TR) and pass the needle through the 1st silver bead just behind the nearest pink one.
Step 10
Repeat the 9th step.
Step 11
String 3 beads (1 blue 11/0 TR and 2 silver 15/0 TR ) and pass the needle through the 1st silver bead just behind the nearest blue one.
Step 12
Repeat the 11 step.
Step 13
Continue making the following rows in the same way. Add a 11/0 TR bead in the same colour as the bead in front of the needle and then 2 silver 15/0 TOHO beads and pass the needle through the 1st silver bead just behind the nearest 11/0 TR bead.
By adding the following rows the rope should look like it’s shown in the picture.
Step 14
As you have reached the desired length of the bracelet, it’s time to make a narrow end.
We add blue 15/0 TOHO Round beads instead of 11/0 TOHO Round, as we did at the beginning of the rope. This part isn’t much thinner, but it’s thin enough to be put into the hole of the clasp.
Step 15
Make 3 more rows this way. Tie a knot between the beads, secure the threads and trim.
Step 16
Russian Spiral rope is empty inside so to prevent the bracelet from falling in and to make it look neat, you can put, a silicone tube inside the bracelet before you put the end caps on it. I used a thin speaker wire.
Step 17
Put some glue into the end caps and slide them over the ends of the rope.
Step 18
Attach the jump rings, the lobster clasp and the charm.
Step 19
It’s done. We’re really curious how your Russian Spiral will look like. Show the pictures on our Facebook group.
