Together with Edyta Rogowska we present you a Russian Spiral tutorial. Bracelets made with this technique look outstanding and they are not as difficult to make as they may seem. Edyta has prepared a straight forward jewellery making tutorial for you in which she presents two versions of this amazing bracelet. Take your needle and let’s stitch!

Materials:

  • 11/0 TOHO beads – I’ve chosen Inside-Color / Gray-Gun Metal Lined – 10 g and a small amount of beads in a different colour – I’ve chosen Opaque Jet
  • 3 mm Firepolish crystals in two colours – I’ve chosen:

- Labrador/Crystal – 5 packs

- Labrador/Jet – 5 packs

or Crystalove beads

  • Magnetic clasp – 10 mm hole, stainless steel lock
  • Jewellery threads – S-LON in a matching colour – I’ve chosen grey
  • Beading needle – a thin one, e.g. John James size 12
  • Jewellery tools – sharp scissors will be useful

Please note - Clasp has been substituted to End caps, Jump Rings & Magnetic Clasp due to stock.

Step 1

Due to the fact that the finished bracelet won’t be thin, we will start to stitch with 11/0 TOHO beads only so that it fits the clasp. Thanks to that, the beginning of the rope will be a bit thinner and it will fit the clasp with no problems. You will add the beads the same way from the very beginning to the end.

So take your needle and let’s stitch.

Step 1

Step 2

String 12 11/0 TOHO beads in a sequence shown in the picture.

- 2 grey, 1 black
- 2 grey, 1 black
- 2 grey, 1 black
- 2 grey, 1 black

Step 1

Step 3

Pass through all the beads strung to make a circle.

Step 1

Step 2

Step 4

Pull the thread and pass through the 1st two beads.

Step 1

Step 5

String 3 beads (1 black and 2 grey) and pass the needle through the 1st grey bead just behind the nearest black one, as shown in the picture.

Step 1

Step 6

Repeat that 3 times until you have completed the whole circle.

Step 1

Step 2

Step 3

Step 7

Again, string 3 beads (1 black and 2 grey) and pass the needle through the 1st grey bead just behind the nearest black one, as shown in the picture.

Step 1

Step 8

Repeat that 3 times making the 3rd row of the rope.

Step 1

Step 2

Step 3

Step 9

As you add the last sequence in the 3rd row, pull the thread so that the beads touch each other a bit and they start to look like a rope.

Step 1

Step 10

Make another row the same way.

Step 1

Step 11

It’s long enough to fit the rope in the 10 mm hole of the clasp. After having completed the 4th row, the beginning of the rope should look like this.

Step 1

Step 2

Step 12

In his step we start making the main part of the bracelet. We will continue the previous steps. The only difference is that we replace TOHO Round (TR) beads with Firepolish (FP) crystals.

String 3 beads (1 black FP, 2 grey TR) and pass the needle through the 1st grey bead just behind the nearest black one, as shown in the picture.

Step 1

Step 13

String 3 beads (1 silver FP, 2 grey TR) and pass the needle through the 1st grey bead just behind the nearest black one, as shown in the picture.

Step 1

Step 14

String 3 beads (1 black FP, 2 grey TR) and pass the needle through the 1st grey bead just behind the nearest black one, as shown in the picture.

Step 1

Step 15

String 3 beads (1 silver FP, 2 grey TR) and pass the needle through the 1st grey bead just behind the nearest black one, as shown in the picture.

Step 1

Step 16

String 3 beads (1 black FP, 2 grey TR) and pass the needle through the 1st grey bead just behind the nearest black Firepolish.

Step 1

Step 17

String 3 beads (1 silver FP, 2 grey TR) and pass the needle through the 1st grey bead just behind the nearest silver Firepolish crystal.

Step 1

Step 18

String 3 beads (1 black FP, 2 grey TR) and pass the needle through the 1st grey bead just behind the nearest black Firepolish.

Step 1

Step 19

String 3 beads (1 silver FP, 2 grey TR) and pass the needle through the 1st grey bead just behind the nearest silver Firepolish crystal.

Step 1

Step 20

Continue making the following rows the same way. Add a Firepolish crystal in the same colour as the FP crystal in front of the needle and then 2 grey 11/0 TOHO beads.

As you have completed 4 rows, the rope should look like this.

Step 1

Step 2

Step 3

Step 21

Continue adding beads…

Step 1

Step 2

Step 3

Step 4

Step 5

Step 22

By adding the following rows the rope should look like it’s shown in the pictures.

Step 1

Step 2

Step 3

Step 4

Step 23

As you have reached the desired length of the rope it’s time to narrow it so that it will fit in the clasp hole.

We add black TOHO Round beads instead of Firepolish crystals, as we did at the beginning of the rope.

Step 1

Step 2

Step 3

Step 4

Step 5

Step 24

Make 4 rows of TOHO Round. As you finished, tie a knot between the beads, secure the threads and trim.

Step 1

Step 25

Put some glue into the end caps and slide them over the ends of the rope. It’s done.

Step 1

Step 26

The tutorial is mainly for learning the technique. I used 11/0 TOHO Round beads and Firepolish crystals, but remember you can make this bracelet using the beads you like. The stitch provides lots of possibilities, and there are a lot of shapes and sizes of beads. Your imagination is the limit.
We’re really curious to see how your Russian Spiral turned out. Show the pictures on our Facebook group.
