Motif Connector Macramé Bracelet - Jewellery Making Tutorial
Designed by: Ewelina Smak
Difficulty: Beginner
We know from experience that braiding cords into macramé weaves is addictive, and so Ewelina acts as our enabler and brings us another gorgeous design! As always, we encourage you to experiment with the colours of all the beads and cords to make it your own. It's not difficult to make, and will look so great when worn amongst your favourite summer stack. They are perfect for giving and selling too. Ready? Let's Braid!
You can add all the items you need to your basket by clicking the box in the 'Products used' section above, or you can let your imagination run wild and choose your own materials from the links below. Please note that the colours for the products illustrated in the image above may not match the 'Products List'.
- Bonny™ Rivoli crystal - 12mm (I used Crystal AB)
- Cord - any cord, preferably a thickness of 1.0mm. We need 5 pieces: 2 x 80cm long, 2 x 45cm long and 1 x 25cm long
- TOHO beads - in sizes 6/0, 11/0 and 15/0
- Matubo SuperDuo™ beads
- Jump Rings - any size (I used 6mm)
- Scissors, lighter & a clip board
Remember - our tutorials are for inspiration and learning purposes. They include links to the relevant categories for you to choose your own colour combinations and we positively encourage you to experiment with different shapes, sizes, finishes, composition and texture. Why not choose your own beads and colours to achieve something in your own style? Let your imagination run wild and make your dream jewellery.

Step 1
To make this central Motif, I used the 'How to make a necklace and earrings with rivoli crystals' tutorial prepared by Monika Wojdyła (Mytha Jewelry). You can find the full tutorial HERE. Follow it to the end of step 10.
Pick up 3 x 11/0 beads and pass through the next 6/0 along. This will create a little triangle (picot).
Follow the bead path all the way around to the opposite side and repeat (add 3 x 11/0 between two 6/0 beads).
Again, follow the bead path all the way around the motif as many times as your needle and beads will allow. Secure your threads and trim.
Beginners can find a useful video on How to Secure your Threads HERE
Step 2
Attach jump rings to both sides of the Motif, through the little triangle just created.
It is on these that we will braid the bracelet.
Step 3
On our jump ting, we tie a shorter string (45 cm) as shown in the photo, i.e. grab the string in the middle, make a loop and pass both ends of our string through it.
Step 4
Tighten the loop tightly and catch it with a pin attached to our work mat.
Step 5
Take our second string, the longer one (80 cm) and fasten it perpendicularly to the shorter string, under it. We grab it with a pin to our working mat.
Step 6
The string on the left side of our work is put over the shorter strings and inserted into the loop of the right string. Place the right string under the shorter strings and insert it into the loops of the left string.
Step 7
We tighten very tightly.
Step 8
Repeat all activities until the desired length is achieved. In my case it is 7cm.
Step 9
After reaching this length, we finish the work by cutting the braided strings and melting them.
Step 10
We do the same on the other side of our work.
Step 11
This is what our bracelet should look like at this stage.
Step 12
We come to the end of our work. In my case it will be terminated with Shamballa knots. The bracelet will be adjustable in length.
Step 13
For this we need an additional 25 cm string. We connect the ends of our work, we pass our additional string under them and use the same knot as when braiding the bracelet, but now we make the right and left knots.
Step 14
The string on the left side of our work is put over the shorter strings and inserted into the loop of the right string. Place the right string under the shorter strings and insert it into the loops of the left string.
Step 15
The string on the right side of our work is put over the shorter strings and inserted into the loop of the left string. Place the left string under the shorter strings and insert it into the loops of the right string. We repeat the whole thing twice.
Step 16
Cut the braided strings and light them with a lighter. We put a bead on our strings, tie knots at the ends of the strings and light it with a lighter to be sure.
