Memory Wire Wreath - Simple Christmas Decorations for Children

Information about project:

Memory Wire Wreath - Simple Christmas Decorations for Children

Rating:

This quick and easy tutorial will show you how to make cute mini wreaths using memory wire and round beads. With a wealth of beads available, they are incredibly easy to personalise and coordinate with your chosen colour scheme. Children will love adding their favourite beads from your stash. Why not give them your random leftovers and see what they create? Have fun!

Memory wire is very stiff and strong and should be cut by an adult wearing protective eyewear. Turning loops in memory wire may also require assistance from an adult.

Materials required:

  • Memory wire - wire diameter depends on the size of the decoration you want to make. The bigger the better we say!
  • Coated Twine - 2mm in a colour matching or coordinating with your beads
  • Beads - You have complete freedom here! They can be any colour of the rainbow, with any finish and almost any size (just check the hole size). For the product list above, we have chosen 8mm Stardust Spacer Beads, 10mm CrystaLove Rounds, 12mm SeaStar Beads and size 6 Toho Seed Beads.

It is easy to take it a step further and add charms or drops to hang inside the wreath.

Optional materials required:

  • Jump rings - sizes 7 or 8mm
  • Craft wire - a thin wire, e.g. 0.2 or 0.3 mm, which you could use to mount the shaped bead if your jump rings are too thick to pass through it's hole.
  • Charm, Connector or Pendant - the 20x20mm Filigree Snowflake in the image can be found HERE
  • Shaped Bead - instead of a drop, you can use crystals in various shapes, such as a rounds, rondelle or drum. The only limit is your imagination.

Our tutorials are for inspiration and learning purposes. They include links to the relevant categories for you to choose your own colour combinations and we positively encourage you to experiment with different shapes, sizes, finishes, composition and texture. Why not choose your own beads and colours to achieve something in your own style? Let your imagination run wild and make your dream piece.

Please note that the colours and products illustrated in the images above do NOT match the 'Products List'.  The product list does not contain the optional materials.

Step 1

Ask your adult assistant to cut about 1.5 rings of the memory wire.

Step 2

Ask your assistant to turn a loop at one end.

Thread your chosen beads onto the wire. Artists discretion applies here. Symmetrical or Asymmetrical? The choice is yours!

Step 3

Ask your assistant to turn a loop at the other end so your beads don't fall off.

Step 4

Thread some Coated Twine through both of the loops. Tie the ends of the twine together to make a circle and it is ready to hang on your tree.

You could make lots of mini wreaths and thread them all onto a long piece of twine. This would form a garland for you to hang anywhere in your home.

Step 5

If you want to, you could add a pretty charm or drop inside your mini wreath. Here's how:

Join together the 2 loops of the memory wire with a jump ring.

Using another jump ring, attach a charm of your choice to the jump ring holding the 2 loops together.

You could add a pretty drop bead too by either using a jump ring thin enough to pass through the hole of the bead, or thread it on with thin craft wire.

Thread some Coated Twine through both of the loops. Tie the ends of the twine together to make a circle and it is ready to hang on your tree.
