Create this beautiful animal print bracelet designed by Hannah Walker
Step 1
Once the other end has been reached repeat the steps 14 – 18 and then continue down the other side of the bracelet with the picot edge.
Step 2
Weave in all the tails of thread knotting as you go. Cut off any loose threads. Add the clasp and, if necessary, use jump rings to add a little extension chain with seed beads for added decoration.
Step 3
On a comfortable length of beading thread add a stopper bead leaving a long tail of thread to weave in at the end. Pick up the seed beads A, A, C, C, C, C, C, A and take them down to the stopper bead.
Step 4
To start the Peyote stitch, pick up C and sew needle through the first C above it. Pull the thread to tighten beadwork and the newly added C will sit on the A above it.
Step 5
Pick up A and, missing a bead out on the row above, sew needle through the third C.
Step 6
Pick up another A and, continuing to miss a bead out, sew into C on the row above. Pick up C and sew through the A on the end of the row above. Pull thread to tighten beadwork.
Step 7
Pick up C and sew through C added in step 4.
Step 8
Continue with this stitch with the beads A, B, C so that each new bead sits between the beads added on the previous row.
Step 9
Carry on down to the next row by picking up C, B, B, C and, with each new bead, sewing into the next bead along that is sticking down from the row above.
Step 10
Carry on with this stitch. The next 5 rows are (beads to be picked up in this order)
- B, C, B, A
- C, A, A, A
- B, C, A, C
- A, C, C, A
- A, C, C, C
Step 11
Continue with the rows
- A, A, A, C
- C, B, B, C
- C, A, B, A
- C, A, A, C
- B, C, A, C
Step 12
Then
- A, C, C, C
- A, A, C, B
- B, A, A, C
- C, B, C, B
- B, A, A, A
Step 13
Then
- C, B, C, A
- C, C, C, C
- C, C, A, C
- A, A, A, C
- A, C, B, C
Step 14
Then
- B, C, A, A
- B, C, A, A
- B, C, C, A
- A, C, C, A
- A, C, C, C
Step 15
Go back to step 2 and continue on with the pattern (the pattern repeats itself) until the bracelet measures 5.5” long for a 7” bracelet or continue beading for a longer bracelet. Add more thread when necessary by weaving it into existing beadwork.
Step 16
From here use D to Peyote stitch.
Step 17
Add 2 more rows of D and pull the thread gently so the beads taper slightly.
Step 18
Pick up 10 D and a split ring.
Step 19
Sew through D on the opposite side.
Step 20
Sew through the loop again to reinforce it and exit the needle from the last D on a row of Peyote.
Step 21
Pick up 3 D and sew down into the nearest size 11 seed bead.
Step 22
Sew across and up into the next size 11. Pick up 3 more D and continue adding the picot edge along the length of the bracelet.
