Difficulty: Intermediate
Today, a jewellery-making tutorial that will be especially appreciated by fans of elegant trinkets. If you sometimes like to put on something shiny, no matter what the weather, you will definitely like this tutorial. We will show you how to braid rivoli in a very simple but effective way. The tutorial will result in a beautiful tassel necklace and matching earrings.
Materials needed to make Necklace only;
- TOHO beads - in size 11/0, 15/0 (I chose OPAQUE JET) and 6/0 in SILVER-LINED / GREY colour
- CrystaLove crystals - rondelle / 6x8mm - I chose the oxidized silver mirror colour - we will need 10 pieces
- SuperDuo beads - a packet. I also used the colour OPAQUE JET
- Tassel - made of viscose thread - length 70mm
- Bail - can be made of stainless steel, crimped in a size of 10 × 5.5 × 7.5mm
- Jump rings - 8mm
- Rivoli crystal - BONNY ™ 12mm in crystal colour
- A jewellery chain - or a string or leather cord - it's up to you what you hang the pendant on
- Jewellery thread - One-G in a colour matching the beads. We will need about a metre, preferably with some spare
- Jewellery needle - thin, one that will pass through the 15/0 beads
- Scissors
Please note that the colours for the products illustrated in the image above may not match the 'Products List'.
Step 1
Thread 10 SUPERDUO beads on the thread, alternating with TOHO 11/0 beads (10 pcs).
Step 2
I am in favor of making my work easier! I don't like it when everything "moves", so I always double the thread to create a bead loop.
Step 3
Now I pass the thread through all the beads again, so as to stiffen our circle for the Bonny Crystal.
Step 4
We stop behind one of the SUPERDUO beads and move to the upper hole of the bead.
Step 5
Add 6/0 Toho beads between the Super Duo beads.
Step 6
It is the turn of the second "layer" of SUPER DUO. Between Toho 6/0 add SUPERDUO beads one by one, stretching the whole thing more tight. You can loop the thread again, then the work will be more stable.
Step 7
Now we move on to the outer hole of the Super Duo beads.
Step 8
Weave 11/0 Toho beads between SuperDuo beads. When we have all 11/0 in place, we put a BONNY crystal in the middle of our work and pull the thread tighter, and pass the thread again and again through SD and Toho 11/0. Our crystal is already "dressed". Now we will decorate it and make it in the form of a pendant.
Step 9
As it is shown in the picture - we move from the inner SD hole to the outer one.
Step 10
And we pass the thread through the Toho 6/0 bead
Step 11
We now thread two 15/0 beads and one SuperDuo, so that the SD is between the Toho.
Step 12
We have to be careful that little Toho 15/0 does not fall into our 6/0 bead. We want the vertices to be created as in the picture.
Step 13
We will move again from the inner SD hole to the outer one.
Step 14
We will now add our beautiful and shiny CrystalLove between the Super Duo beads.
Step 15
.… and between CrystaLove we put 6/0 Toho beads. In this way, quite quickly, we have our pendant ready. Just a few more steps and it'll be ready to wear.
Step 16
We add our bail. To do this, our thread must come out of the Toho 6/0 bead. We thread 13 Toho 15/0 beads and a bail on the thread. We stick to the Toho 6/0 beads creating a loop. We tighten it and pass the thread through it again. We do not cut the rest of the thread, but we pass around the perimeter of the pendant (through SD and Toho 6/0) two more times. Now we can get rid of the excess thread.
Step 17
Time for a tassel.
Step 18
Step 19
Put the ring into the Toho 6/0 bead. We close and you know how to make a rivoli necklace
Step 20
You know how to make a rivoli necklace, and by following all the steps below we can make beautiful earrings to match. A little imagination is enough to decorate them in any way. As a bonus, I will show you how to make earrings from beads and crystals in the easiest way possible.
1. It is enough to add three 11/0 beads between the Toho beads 6/0, which will form beautiful "cloves".
Step 21
To add earwires, leave the tip of our one "clove". We thread 5 Toho beads 11/0, earwire made of surgical steel and enter the tip of the "tooth" next to it.
Step 22
In order to arrange the beads nicely, we can pass the thread around the earring again, but omitting the middle Toho from our teeth.
Step 23
And we have earrings to match. You can hang a tassel to them, drop a stone - whatever you want.
