How to make long beaded earrings with cord - jewellery making tutorial

Jewellery made from cord/string has a lot of advantages. First of all, you can make it yourself - it may not be possible without solving unruly knots, the joy of creating will be enormous anyway. Secondly, it is very light and looks amazing. Thirdly, the strings have so many wonderful colours that you can create endless combinations - just like Kasia, who will show you how to make these beaded earrings using cord. These are just a few pluses, you have to find the rest yourself. To work!

Materials needed;

  • Macrame Cord - in my earrings I used a string with a thickness of 0.6mm. In total, you will need 9 pieces of string, approximately 55 cm long. It is best to cut with a slight margin.
  • Beads - I used 4mm beads in my earrings, but 4mm x 6mm beads will also be suitable. When selecting beads, pay attention to the size of the hole. I used beads with a hole diameter of 1mm. TOHO 11/0 beads - they easily fit on the strings I use
  • Earwires - I used earwires made of surgical steel in a gold colour
  • Jump rings - any wire up to 0.8 mm thick
  • Flower charms
  • Scissors, a lighter and pliers
  • Glue for sticking the ends of the string.

Step 1

We start with attaching the strings to the jump ring. We fold the string in half and insert the two ends through the base from above, then thread through the loop from below and tighten. My string is a bit slippery so I attach the strings one at a time. After attaching the first (middle) string, the right string becomes the leading string and the left string is tied with two loops of the rib knot (as shown in the photo). It is important that the lead string is tight.

Step 1

Step 2

On the left side we fasten the second string in the same way. The two additional strings created in this way are wrapped with a rib knot around our guiding string. When braiding, the twine must be taut and angled downwards as shown in the photos.

Step 1

Step 2

Step 3

On the right side we fasten the third and last string. The leading string is the last string on the right side of our work from the previous stage. As before, we wrap the newly created two additional strings with a rib knot around it. The leading string should be taut in the direction shown in the photos below.

Step 1

Step 4

The next step is to add a 4mm bead. Thread the bead on the two central strings. Due to the small diameter of the hole, I recommend lighting the ends of the strings with a lighter and before they melt, form them into a thin thread, on which we can easily thread a bead. Additionally, I use tweezers to pull the bead.

Step 1

Step 2

Step 5

Then we braid the bead. The last string on the right becomes the leading string and we braid two more strings around it towards the center.

Step 1

Step 6

We braid the left side in the same way.

Step 1

Step 7

We close by wrapping the "right" string around the "left" one.

Step 1

Step 8

Thread the TOHO beads on the strings, omitting the two middle ones. Three beads for the outermost strings and one for the strings between the outermost and middle strings as shown in the photo.

Step 1

Step 9

The central strings become the guiding strings and around them we braid the remaining strings on the right and left side of our work.

Step 1

Step 2

Step 10

From now on, until the end of our macrame earring base, we repeat steps 4 to 9 in point 7 if we first weave the "right" middle string around the "left" then in the next sequence we change to "left" around the "right" (as in the pictures below) ).

Step 1

Step 2

Step 11

Below are the stages of work.

Step 1

Step 2

Step 12

We finish the macrame base with two rows of rib knots.

Step 1

Step 2

Step 13

Cut the remaining strings as close to our work as possible, carefully light them with a lighter. To fix the work, glue the cut points with glue, eg Hasulith.

Step 1

Step 14

Now all that's left is to mount the earwires and flower charms with jump rings. Install the rings by bending them gently with pliers and then stick them between the first and second row of rib weave ending the macrame base of the earring. Before you bend the rings again, put on the flower and it's ready! We make the second earring similarly

Step 1

Step 15

The earrings are simple to make and also delicate. You can finish them according to your preferences: flowers, tassels or a feather. I present below the second variant with the use of tassels and brown-gold crystals 4mm x 6mm.Good Luck! Show us your designs on our Facebook page.
