As soon as I found out Beads Direct had got the geometric jewellery bases in their offers, so many design ideas came to mind! I’m also enchanted by Beads Directs flower charms so decided to connect them both. Add a bit of crocheting and it’s perfect! I do hope you’re gonna love them as much as I do. Believe me – they’re really pleasant to make and the final effect is really worth all the time put in making them.
Necessary supplies:
- geometric jewellery bases – I chose 30mm rings.
- macrame cord – here it’s my beloved SUPERLON MACRAME THREAD.
- flower charms
- earring hooks.
- jump rings – 4 open ones
- headpins.
- 4mm beads – 4 pieces with matching colour as the flowers.
- Glue – could be transparent 2-part Poxipol, but never SuperGlue type which can ruin all our hard work.
- scissors
- crochet hooks – 2mm and 2.5mm
- cutters and pliers to open jump rings.
Do you want to know how to make our earrings? So, take a seat and sit down comfortably, follow the step by step instructions and join me to create your own!
Step 1
Get your base, thread and 2.5mm crochet (with a loop on it) ready.
Step 2
Now let’s grab the base. Hold the shorter thread to the base and put crochet inside the ring. Just like it is showed on the picture.
Step 3
Hook your crochet to the thread that is coming from the spool.
Step 4
Pull thread under base and a beginning thread. We’re going to have two stitches on crochet. Keep holding the shorter thread on the base, there’s not going to be a problem making first double crochet and two stitches. Besides, we won’t have to get rid of the ending, it’s going to be hidden.
Step 5
Pull thread through both stitches.
Step 6
Our first double crochet is ready.
Step 7
Now the same, holding shorter thread by the base, get the crochet to the middle of a ring.
Step 8
Hook crochet on a thread.
Step 9
Pull under the base and we have two hoops on crochet.
Step 10
Pull the thread through both using a crochet hook.
Step 11
Continue until our ring is fully ‘dressed’. You can cut the shorter thread sometime in the middle if it gets in the way. Usually I just leave it.
Step 12
When the ring is dressed we can cut the thread and pull it through the loop. Just pull the loop until the thread is out of stitches and pull.
Step 13
Now grab a smaller crochet and go to the back thread of our chain on the edge of a base, by the thread that is cut. Pull the cut thread through this stitch. Repeat it twice pulling somewhere in the back so the ending is not visible on the front of our earring.
Step 14
Glue the spot where you'll cut the thread. Wait until dry and cut.
Step 15
While the base is drying, we can prepare flowers.
Step 16
Get the headpin and put a 4mm bead on it. Open the hook from the flower, take the cap off and remove a pin.
Step 17
Insert your headpin with bead where the old eyepin was.
Step 18
Prepare second one the same way.
Step 19
When the flowers are ready and the glue on the base has dried, attach the bigger jump ring to the earring (jumprings can be the same size). Open it, attach in the spot where we were gluing and close.
Step 20
Open second jumpring and attach to previous one.
Step 21
Now it’s time for the earring hook. Attach it to the open jumpring, making sure the earring is facing front – visible chain and no glue.
Step 22
Hang the first flower. It’s going to be the one we didn’t alter. Open the hook and attach flower to the jumpring on base. Close the hook.
Step 23
Now it’s time for the first altered flower. We need to attach it to the crocheted piece under the chain, next to the jumpring.
Step 24
Cut the headpin and leave 0.5cm or a bit more, so it’s comfortable. Grab the round nose pliers and bend your pin into hook, facing down, so it gets the base from the bottom.
Step 25
Attach the second flower in a similar way. I recommend to place it right above the base so it’s a bit lower or move it to that position after attaching.
Step 26
Attach the flowers for the second earring in the same way.
Step 27
And they’re ready! I’m so in love with them, there’s no way I’m going to stop on just one pair. Are you going to make your own?
