How to make a Dreamcatcher necklace - jewellery making tutorial
Designed by: Leah Connolly
Difficulty: Beginner
Following on from the dreamcatcher design Leah created, she took the same technique and applied it to the droplet base. Don't you just love the outcome? You could have lots of fun with this design and experiment with different colours, materials and you can make the spiders web as large/small as you would like.
Gather your products and bead your stresses away with this cute handmade design :)
Materials used:
BEADSMITH ™ thread SuplerLon 0.5mm in a light blue colour
TOHO™ Treasures in size 11/0
Earring base - I used the droplet base 49x23mm in silver
Chain - I used snake chain but any type of chain would work well.
Cord ends - use these to attach to your snake chain using glue
Clasp - lobster clasp
6mm Jump Ring
For the centre of the dreamcatcher I used 8mm Iced crystal beads
Glue
Scissors
Our tutorials are for inspiration and learning purposes. They include links to the relevant categories for you to choose your own colour combinations and we positively encourage you to experiment with different shapes, sizes, finishes, composition and texture. Why not choose your own beads and colours to achieve something in your own style? Let your imagination run wild and make your dream piece of jewellery.
Please note that the colours for the products illustrated in the image above may not match the 'Products List'.
Step 1
Cut approximately 90cm of s-lon thread. Go through the loop in the top of the base tie a double knot with the thread.
Step 2
Now start wrapping your base with the thread.
Step 3
Once you have wrapped the base, move your thread over to the otherwise of your base. Your base might already have another loop at the top which is great, so thread through the loop or you can keep this free to dangle a bead from. The choice is yours.
Step 4
Loop your thread over and under the base, as shown in the image. Work your way around your base until you have reached the other side.
Step 5
Now move onto the next row in the spiders web, I started adding beads to the thread but you can add beads as and when you wish.
Step 6
Continue with your spiders web until you have reached the centre.
Step 7
Thread on the centre bead onto your thread, create knots on the design to secure in place. Cut off any excess cord. You can also place a small amount of glue on the knot for extra security.
Step 8
Cut off the excess cord at the top and place a small amount of glue on the knot. Attach a jump ring to the loop using pliers and attach onto your desired chain. The snake chain in this project will need to be cut to your desired length, then glue on the cord ends. Attach jump rings onto both ends and attach a clasp onto one end using another jump ring.
Step 9
Your necklace is now complete. You could create another pendant and dangle it from the 1st base or you could create matching dreamcatcher earrings, there are so many ways you can adapt this design. We would love to see your works of art so feel free to share them with us on our Beads Direct and Friends Facebook group.
