HOW TO MAKE A BUTTERFLY CHOKER – JEWELLERY MAKING FOR BEGINNERS

Information about this project

Difficulty: Beginner

We are all mad about the stunning new Organza Wings <3 Joanne was very keen to get her hands on them and immediately came up with this fabulous, quick and easy project to inspire you.

The ethereal feel of these gorgeous little translucent organza wings makes them ideal for many projects. They could be wings for Angels, fairies as well as butterflies and Dragonflies. The only limit to their use is your own imagination! I made this quick and easy choker to get you started.... I am excited to see what you make with yours. Joanne xx

Our tutorials are mostly for inspiration and learning purposes. Choose the colours to achieve something in your own style!

Step 1

Before you start, place one small set of wings over 1 large set.  Add a dab of glue or clear nail varnish to the point you will be making a hole (centre of the wings). Allow to dry completely before you start.

*This will stiffen the organza allowing you to pierce the fabric more efficiently. It will also hold them together whilst you work

Step 2

Add 3 spacer beads to a headpin.
Using pliers, fold the headpin back on itself immediately underneath the last bead added.

Step 3

Measuring from the top of the head of the headpin, trim the tail, leaving a 1cm piece for making a loop.

Step 4

Using a sharp object, puncture a small hole in the centre of one pair of large and one pair of small wings.

Pass the folded headpin through the hole just made on the larger wings, and then the smaller.

Make a loop with the 1cm tail.

Glue the wings to the 3 spacer beads on the pin and allow to fully dry.

Step 5

Add 6 spacer beads to an eye pin. Cut the headpin, leaving a 1cm tail. Using this 1cm tail, turn a loop.

Using a jumpring, connect the 2 pieces together.

Using pliers, open the loop created at the back of your wings and attach to the loop on your choker base. Close loop.
