How to make a bracelet and matching earrings - a jewellery tutorial using leather and ceramic beads

Designed by: Marta Draganek

Difficulty: Beginner

Rating:

Ceramic beads are an ideal material for beginner jewellery makers. It does not require special skills and all you need is a little creativity to make something completely unique! In today's tutorial Marta Draganek has prepared a set of earrings and a bracelet. The basis of this jewellery will be a flat leather strap. The main decorative element will be oval ceramic beads in colours of your choice. Jewellery in a simple form, but extremely effective!

Materials needed;

Ceramic beads - I used oval 18x20mm (hole 8x10mm) in two colours. In my case, they are three beads in black and five beads in white.
Leather Cord - 4mm.
Clasps x2 - I used the plug in clasps with a 4mm hole, but you could replace these with magnetic clasps or end caps with a jump ring and an adjustable chain.
End Caps - 8mm internal hole. You will need two pieces - they will be used to finish the earrings.
Earwires
Jump Rings - 6mm. We will use them to attach the earwires.
Glue - quick drying preferably, for fixing tips and fasteners.
Pliers
Scissors

Step 1

To make the Bracelet:

Cut two identical pieces of leather. The length depends of course on the circumference of your wrist. My wrist has a circumference of 15cm. I usually add 2cm to the circumference of the wrist to be able to fasten the bracelet freely. It's always best to make it too big than too small! You can always shorten the bracelet. We put a white bead on the first section 17cm long and align the ends of the leather.

Step 1

Step 2

Add a black bead on the leather coming out of the bottom of the white bead.

Step 1

Step 3

Weave the other end of leather through the black bead in the opposite way to the other side.

Step 1

Step 4

Get your second pre-cut 17cm piece of leather and put this through the same white bead. Again, we align the ends of the leather like in the picture.

Step 1

Step 5

Add a second black bead on the leather from the bottom of the weave.

Step 1

Step 6

Pull the leather that runs in the upper part of the weave through it.

Step 1

Step 2

Step 7

Glue the ends of the leather into to the plug clasps.

Step 1

Step 8

The double clasps can of course be replaced by 1 larger one with an internal diameter of 8mm. Or you could use end caps with a jump ring and an adjustable chain.

Here is the final result!

Step 10

To make the Earrings:

Cut two pieces of leather to a length of your choice. The length depends on how dangly you would like the earrings to be. I decided to cut my pieces of leather to 6cm long. Add on a white ceramic bead and meet the two ends of leather together. You can add as many beads as you like but in this case I decided on a single bead, because ceramics are quite heavy.

Step 1

Step 11

Push the ends of the leather into the end cap.

Step 1

Step 12

Use the jump ring to attach the ear wire.

Step 1

Step 2

Step 13

I chose small jump rings, that are very soft and delicate. To strengthen the connection, I attached two jump rings to each earwire. If you have split rings, you will only need to attach one. And here's the finished result! Remember to share your chosen colourway on our Facebook Group.
