How to make a beaded heart? Jewellery making tutorial.

Information about this project

Alicja will show you how to make a beaded heart, which you can later use as a pendant.

I hope you're gonna like it and I'll be able to show it to you in easiest way possible! It may seem a bit complicated but don't worry, get your needles ready and let's begin!

Neccessary supplies:

  • Beads – 104pc of 4mm beads. I recommend SeaStar, CrystaLove or FirePolish. Bigger ones are not too good as your heart will be too heavy and may change its shape. FirePolish heart will be apx 5cm.
  • TOHO beads – 11/o. You can replace them with 2mm spacer beads.
  • Jewellery bail – here it's 8x11x7mm.
  • Chain – here I used anchor 3x2mm. You can replace it with a cord.
  • Beading thread – better not use too thin threads or it will be too soft and will change shape easily. Better use something like Fireline. 0.4mm would be best. Clear beading thread would work as well, they're more stiff.
  • Beading needle – John James 10/13.
  • Jewellery tools – cutters or sharp scissors.

Step 1

Thread your beads. One big, two small, one big and two small.

Step 1

Step 2

Go through them again to form a circle and tie a knot.

Step 1

Step 3

Next thread two small beads, one big and two small.

Step 1

Step 4

Peck the needle on the other side of of a bead that thread is coming out of. We should have something like on picture.

Step 1

Step 5

Repeat it twice.

Step 1

Step 2

Step 3

Step 4

Step 6

Now thread two small beads, one big and one small.

Step 1

Step 7

Now we have to make sure to add one bead on the same side so our heart gets its shape. Repeat it twice.

Step 1

Step 2

Step 8

Now take three small beads, one big and one small.

Step 1

Step 9

Remember that single small beads have to be on one side. Repeat it again.

Step 1

Step 10

Now thread two small beads, one big and one small, three times.

Step 1

Step 11

If you have it, now we're closing one part of our heart on the top, threadone big bead, one small, one big and one small.

Step 1

Step 12

Move on to the big bead that's on top and start second side of our heart.

Step 1

Step 13

Now we're gonna add beads opposite way than before(like going backwards) so first add one small bead, one big and two small(single small beads still have to be on the same side).

Step 1

Step 2

Step 14

Repeat it twice.

Step 1

Step 15

Next add three small, one big and one small.

Step 1

Step 16

Repeat it once.

Step 1

Step 17

Now we add two small beads, one big and one small three times. Again, make sure single small beads are on the same side so heart will get its shape.

Step 1

Step 2

Step 3

Step 18

In next step add two small beads, one big and two small, four times.

Step 1

Step 2

Step 3

Step 4

Step 19

If we have it, time to connect the bottom of our heart. Thread should come out of a big bead to the middle of our heart. Peck needle into big bead that's on the other end of the heart, inside.

Step 1

Step 20

Add one small bead, one big and one small.

Step 1

Step 21

Pull the thread tight(don't cut yet, we're gonna need it to tie a knot in the end). Now it'd be good to thread this spot twice or even three times to make sure it's properly closed. Tie a knot. Our heart should look like this.

Step 1

Step 22

Make one more heart.

If you have it, we cans tart connecting them together.

It can happen that you will run out of thread, it will be too short and you'll have to add a new piece. I recomment using barrel knot(ask Google, you'll find instructions easily).

Step 1

Step 23

Let's move on to connecting our hearts.

Slip a bead on a thread that's outside of our heart and get into bead from the outside, into second heart on the same level, like on picture.

Step 1

Step 24

If thread is coming out of bead number two, go into the same bead on second heart.

Now add bead on the inside.

Step 1

Step 25

Thread recently added beads twice or three times. We have to do it so the heart will be stiff and hold its shape.

Now go through two small beads to another big bead.

Step 1

Step 26

Add beads the same way as before.

Step 1

Step 2

Step 3

Step 4

Step 27

Add beads like that until we have three small beads outside.

Step 1

Step 28

Now add one big bead outside, don't add any on the inside, just go through a previous bead like on picture.

Step 1

Step 29

Continue adding beads one on each side until we're on top of our heart(where two halves are connected).

Step 1

Step 30

Add one bead outside(it's gonna conenct two halves of a heart and we will put a bail on it).

Step 1

Step 31

Add one on the inside(sorry for the threads, little oversight of me).

Step 1

Step 32

Move to a bead we added now on the outside and thread a needle through a first bead from second half.

Step 1

Step 33

Add big bead on the inside.

Step 1

Step 34

Go back with your needle to get to the bead we added outside. Take two small beads, bail and two small beads. Make a loop out of them by going with your needle through a bead. Thread it couple of times so the bail sits tightly.

Step 1

Step 35

After the bail is ready go inside a heart to the beads that are outside the most. Thread them 2-3 times so they connect nicely.

Step 1

Step 36

Now connect second half of a heart, the same way as first one(it's enough to go backwards with our steps, so you'll see what's gonna be added where).

Step 1

Step 37

Add beads until you got to the place on a picture.

Step 1

Step 38

Go inside a heart.

Step 1

Step 39

Add one bead.

Step 1

Step 40

Now we're gonna add beads the same way as on top of your heart, just now the connectiong bead will be inside, outside we're gonna add one bead on each side.

Step 1

Step 2

Step 3

Step 41

Connect together beads visible on a picture, threading it 2-3 times.

Step 1

Step 42

Let's move to tying threads together. Tie a knot and try to pull it in the bead and cut the excess.

Step 1

Step 43
