How to make beaded earrings - A jewellery making tutorial

We present to you a jewellery making tutorial in which Monika Wojdyła shows you how to make beaded earrings using TOHO beads. They are not just any earrings, but very feminine and glamorous ones and not so difficult to make either. If you like eye-catching jewellery - this is a perfect tutorial for you. Let’s do this!

What I like the most of the summer months is that we don’t need to wear scarves and warm jackets so we can show off long earrings. But since we are beading freaks we obviously wear them even in winter, but we can’t show off their beauty in the perfect way. Now it’s time to have fun with the patterns, length and colours and in return they will attract your friends’ attention. Sit back, make coffee and make these extraordinary earrings with me. They are beautiful and they can be made in as many colourways, as many flowers you can find in a meadow. Monika x

You can add all the items you need to your basket by clicking the box in the 'Products used' section above, or you can let your imagination run wild and choose your own materials from the links below. Please note that the products illustrated in the image above are Lindsay's own and do not match the 'Products List'.

  • Earrings base – with 7 loops
  • Earring wires – stainless steel ones
  • 6/0 TOHO seed beads – Silver Lined Teal
  • jump rings – 5 mm (you may use 6mm jump rings – it will be easier to close them and they won’t be too dense)
  • tools – 2 x flat nose pliers and a bead mat

We believe that jewellery should be as individual as you are and so our tutorials are for inspiration and learning purposes. They include links to the relevant categories for you to choose your own colour combinations and we positively encourage you to experiment with different shapes, sizes, finishes, composition and texture. Why not choose your own beads and colours to achieve something in your own style? Let your creative imagination run wild and make your dream piece of jewellery.

Step 1

Open a jump ring with the pliers. Important, don’t pull it – use a “twisting” motion to open the jump ring.

Step 1

Step 2

Step 2

Thread on two beads into the jump ring.

Step 1

Step 3

Attach the jump ring with the beads to the 1st loop of the base and close the jump ring.

Step 1

Step 4

Thread on two beads onto the next jump ring.

Step 1

Step 5

Attach the 2nd jump ring to the 1st one already attached to the base. Attach the ring between the beads of the 1st ring (marked with “X”). The new jump ring should be placed in the middle.

Step 1

Step 2

Step 6

Thread on 1 bead onto a jump ring. We will thread on only 1 bead onto the last jump ring of each “row”.

Step 1

Step 2

Step 3

Step 7

In each following row you will add two jump rings with beads more until you have reached the middle loop. We will reduce the number of jump rings starting from the middle loop.

If there are 7 loops add:

1st row – 3 jump rings

2nd – 5 jump rings

3rd – 7 jump rings

4th – 9 jump rings

5th – 7 jump rings

6th – 5 jump rings

7th – 3 jump rings

Remember to thread on only 1 bead onto the last jump ring of each “row”.

Step 2

Step 3

Step 8

Now, all you need to do is to attach the earring wire. Open the loop of the earring wire, attach the base. It’s done!
