Is everyone ready for Christmas? Maybe you have all these gifts to wrap but want to add that extra little handmade something to the wrapping.
Join Leah and she will show you how to create a pretty snowflake, which you an embellish onto to anything, such as a gift box, organza bags, wrapping paper e.t.c. the possibilities are endless.
Ready? Let's stitch.
GEMDUO™ - in a selection of different colours 8x5mm. You will need two packs to complete one snowflake
Beads - size 11/0 acrylic seed beads in crystal clear
Thread - One G thread in white
Gift box/bag or anything you would like to embellish onto, the choices are endless...
Cut an arm span of thread and thread 6 x GemDuo beads onto your thread with 6 x size 11/0 seed beads sitting in-between them. Go back through your beads to form a snowflake shape, leaving a 20cm tail.
Now go through the side of one of your GemDuo beads so that you are exiting out of the top (second hole in your GemDuo bead). Thread on 2x GemDuo beads ( I used different colours for this next row) and go back through the top hole in the Gemduo bead.
Continue this technique the whole way round until you are back at the start and you have two layers to your snowflake.
Now thread a GemDuo bead (using a different colour) into the gap opposite your first layer and between the two on your second layer. Once you have one in place thread through your second layer and thread 3x size 11/0 seed beads and continue this design the whole way round again. Make sure you keep the tension tight.
Now on each of the third layer points you need to attach the 2x GemDuo's in one colour and then one of your other colours in the centre above them. Do this by threading from the third layer point into a GemDuo, back through the second top hole on that GemDuo and into a different coloured GemDuo, into another GemDuo and around the side back through the other hole and through the point of your third layer.
Thread 6x size 11/0 seed beads, continue onto the next point and continue all the way around until finished. Make sure you keep the tension. Got back through your design creating knots throughout and cut the excess cord. Repeat this with your tail thread and your snowflake is now complete.
Then you can stick this decoration to a gift box, on a gift tag, use within jewellery. The snowflake is quite flimsy so you may need to reinforce the design, depending on what you use it for.
We hope you enjoyed this mini tutorial by Leah Connolly. We would love for you to share your works of art on our Facebook Page. What will you embellish your star creation on to? Happy beading.
