Harlequin Earrings - Jewellery Making Tutorial
Designed by: Joanne
Difficulty: Beginner
Joanne was inspired by the lovely harlequin pattern on these Glass Beads and wanted to make some simple earrings. With their rainbow finish, they can be teamed with many outfits so we think they will be a firm favourite for many of us a while. They are super quick and easy to make and can be personalised in countless ways. Change the crystal accent, spacer bead or the main 10mm bead itself and your on your way to designing your own. Ready? Let's Get Creative!
You can add all the items you need for the bracelet to your basket by clicking the box in the 'Products used' section above, or you can let your imagination run wild and choose your own materials from the links below. Please note that the colours for the products illustrated in the image above may not match the 'Products Used List':
- 10mm Round Bead
- 4mm Bead - any shape
- Bead Caps
- Spacer Beads
- Headpins
- Earwires
- Side Cutter
- Flat Pliers
- Round Nose Pliers
TIP: Before you begin, straighten your headpins (despite best efforts, they are often not straight).
We believe that jewellery should be as individual as you are and so our tutorials are for inspiration and learning purposes. They include links to the relevant categories for you to choose your own colour combinations and we positively encourage you to experiment with different shapes, sizes, finishes, composition and texture. Why not choose your own beads and colours to achieve something in your own style? Let your creative imagination run wild and make your dream piece of jewellery?

Step 1
Once you have straightened your headpins, thread them with the following:
1 x Bead Cap, 1x 10mm Bead, 1 x Spacer and 1 x 4mm bead.
Step 2
Using Cutters, trim the headpin to leave a working length of approx. 10mm above the 4mm bead.
Using round nose pliers, turn a loop with the remaining 10mm.
New beaders can find an excellent video tutorial on how to do this HERE.
Step 3
Open the earwire and thread it onto the loop just created.
Step 4
How quick and easy was that?? We hope you enjoyed making them and that it has inspired you to make more with your own bead choices.
