Framed Charm Earrings - Jewellery making tutorial

This simple project is designed to inspire you to experiment with your favourite charms and pendants. Follow the mini video to learn the best way of opening and closing a jump ring, link all your components and together and hey presto, you have  some fabulous ready to wear jewellery! Ready? Let's begin...

Materials required:
Ear Wires - Lever backed are great if you are prone to losing earrings ;)
Jump Rings - Always remember to make sure they are thin (or indeed thick) enough to pass through the hole of your charm/pendant
Charms or Pendants - You will need 2 for this project. They don't have to match! I chose matching Glamm™ Pendants
Earring Bases - I chose the droplet shape to accommodate my long cat charms. Other shapes and sizes are available. Please double check the pack size when adding to your basket.

Remember that our tutorials are about learning a technique and bringing you inspiration. You can choose any charms, pendants, frames and earwires you want!

Please note that the colours for the products illustrated in the image above may not match the 'Products List'.

Step 1

Begin by adding a jump ring to an earwire:

Hold a jump ring with the split at the top and your pliers at the side. Using another set of pliers, hold the other side of the ring and twist each side away from each other (ALWAYS twist, NEVER pull outwards as this will either break or weaken the jump ring).

Put the open jump ring through the loop on the earwire and twist back until the gap in the jump ring closes.

Step 2

Using a second jump ring, attach the earring base to the jump ring just added to the earwire.

It is important to ensure that your earring base will be facing the correct way once complete. When you are joining the 2 parts together, ensure both 'front sides' are facing each other.

It is also really important to ensure the jump rings are fully closed. The earring bases are quite thin and you do not want to lose any components when they are being worn.

Step 3

Attach a 3rd jump ring to the lower hole of the earring base.

Step 4

Attach a 4th jump ring to the top of your charm/pendant.

Step 5

Using a 5th and final jump ring, join together the jump ring on top of the charm with the jump ring attached to the lower hole of the earring base. Again, ensure your pendant/charm is facing the correct way.
