'Flutterbye' Necklace

This pretty, feminine necklace is perfect for wearing to enjoy the last few days of summer. Made using ceramic beads, satin ribbon and coiled wire this mixed media necklace has interesting texture and contrast.

Step 1

Cut 6 pieces of ribbon approx. 6 inches long. Thread one piece of ribbon through a heart ceramic button and tie in a bow. Cut off any exess ribbon if necessary. Stitch through the bow to keep it secure. Repeat this process for all the ceramic buttons.

Step 2

Using the coiling gizmo, coil a piece of supa ice blue wire and add a pink butterfly to the centre. Repeat to create a second coil bead. Create another 2 coils adding a few seed beads and a butterfly to these coils.

Step 3

Cut a piece of Beadalon wire approx. 14 inches long. Attach a necklace end, then thread on the following: 1 heart button (thread through the ribbon at the back), 5 seed beads, a Swarovski butterfly, 5 seed beads, a ceramic butterfly, a coiled wire bead, a heart button, 5 seed beads, a Swarovski butterfly, 5 seed beads, a ceramic butterfly, a coiled wire bead, a heart button, 5 seed beads, a Swarovski butterfly, 5 seed beads, a ceramic butterfly. This last ceramic butterfly is the centre bead, so repeat the pattern in reverse for the other half of the necklace.

Step 4

Finish the end of wire using a necklace end. Cut 2 pieces of ribbon aprox. 24 inches long. Double each one over and tie through the necklace end. Tie these end ribbons in  a bow to wear.
