Autumn Leaf Wire Collar

Step 1

To make this autumnal collar styled necklace you will need a mixture of different thicknesses of wire and colours as well two types of seed beads, pliers, a chain & clasp and two sizes of jump rings.

Step 2

With the gold/copper 1 mm wire make a leaf outline shape, with the stem part running up the centre. The leaves do not have to be perfect any shape will do leaving some excess wire at the end. You will need to make seven of these leaves in total. 2 x 6 cm, 2 x 6.5 cm, 2 x 9.5 cm and 1 x 9 cm for the centre piece that sits at the bottom.

Step 1

Step 3

Once you have your leaf shaped components you need to start wrapping the edges in the 0.4 mm copper wire on one side adding the small seed beads as you go. How many seed beads is entirely down to preference, the tiny glass beads I added in groups of two or three creating a cluster. Once you reach the end tie it off at the end of the stem.

Step 4

On the other side of the leaf you want to repeat the last step but in the gold 0.3 mm wire wrapping the edge once more with the seed beads. Once this is done start moving up the stem again dragging the wire across to the edges creating the small leaf veins attach small seed beads as you go so they move up and down the wire freely. This needs to be done on both sides in the corresponding coloured wires.

Step 2

Step 5

Once you have wrapped both sides and the stem and created the veins with the coloured wires you should have a leaf shape. You need to repeat this for all your seven leaf components.

Step 1

Step 6

Once you have completed all seven, cut the stem ends off where there is excess wire and wrap the gold 0.3 mm wire around the ends neatening them off and getting rid of sharp edges. Please take caution when doing this as the wire ends are sharp and we don't want you to stab your fingers as you'll need them for the next step!

Step 1

Step 7

Taking the larger of the jump rings ply one apart and attach it to one end of one of your leaf components ad attach another leaf creating a link. I chose to keep the copper side of the leaves running along the inside but you can mix it up to your liking. Repeat the jump ring chain until all the leaves are joined together and you have a strand with an opening at the top; this is where we will attach the chain.

Step 1

Step 2

Step 8

Take seven of the links from the chain in the findings kit and attach a large jump ring to one side and a small jump ring to the other end. The large jump ring will attach to the leaves and the smaller jump ring will be the attachment that the clasp will hook on to.

Repeat this to the other end just without the small jump ring instead attach a lobster clasp and clip both end of the chain together creating autumn collar necklace to wear with your autumnal wardrobe!
