Cascade Bib Necklace - Jewellery Making Tutorial

Designed by: Joanne

Difficulty: Beginner

Rating:

This may be an old tutorial, but the design is still very relevant today. It can be made with any size beads you want - The image is of 6mm Round Pearls whilst the product list is in 4mm Firepolish.

Again, this is an easy one to personalise with colour, texture and pattern of beads.  You could even make the chain longer for a boho feel. However you choose to adapt it, we hope you have fun in the process.

If you are new to beading, you might find these video's useful:

Choosing Your Own Materials;

Please note that the colours and products illustrated in the image above may not match the 'Products Used List'.

Original design by Joanne - April 2013

Step 1

Thread 1 x A bead onto a Headpin. Trim the headpin to leave an approx. 1cm tail. Bend the tail 45 degrees (as close to the bead as possible) using flat nose pliers. Using round nose pliers, grip the top end of the pin and twist into a loop. Repeat with 12 more A beads giving you total of 13 Drops.

Step 2

Thread 1 x A bead onto an Eye pin. Trim the headpin to leave an approx. 1cm tail. Bend the tail 45 degrees (as close to the bead as possible) using flat nose pliers. Using round nose pliers, grip the top end of the pin and twist into a loop. Repeat with 11 x A beads, 16 x B beads and 9 x C beads to give a total of 36 Connectors.

Step 3

Open the eye of one of the Drops previously made. Attach it to an A bead  Connector and close the eye. Open the free eye of the A bead Connector and attach to a B Beads Connector and close they eye. Continue adding to this Strip until you have 2 x A beads, 2 x B beads and 3 x C beads connected together. This will be the central Strip of your necklace.

Step 4

Create 5 more strips in the following patterns:

1 x A bead (Drop) & 1 x A bead (Connector)

1 x A bead D, 1 x A bead C & 1 x B bead C

 1 x A bead D, 1 x A bead C, 1 x B bead & 1 x B bead C

 1 x A bead D, 1 x A bead C, 1 x B bead, 1 x B bead C & 1 x C bead C

 1 x A bead D, 1 x A bead C, 1 x B bead, 1 x B bead C, 1 x C bead C & 1 x C bead C

Step 5

Repeat step 4.

Step 6

Find the centremost link of your chain. Open the eye at the top of the longest Strip, attach to the centremost link & close the eye. Working to the right, skip one link of the chain and attach one of the 6 bead Strips the chain. Continue along the chain, skipping one link and adding Strips of decreasing numbers, ending with a single A bead D.

Step 7

Working to the left of the centre Strip, add the remaining strips in mirror image to those just added.

Step 8

Using Jump Rings, attach a clasp to one end of the chain, and another jump ring to the other end.

And it's ready to wear! <3
