Wouldn't you just love them on your tree, or even attach a brooch pin and wear them proud throughout the Christmas season, there are so many ways in which you can use these snowmen :)

Ready? Let's stitch.

Supplies

Bonny™ Rivoli 1x 16mm in Crystal Clear and 1x 16mm in teal

Bonny™ Rivoli 2x18mm in Crystal Clear

TOHO™ Treasure seed beads - Size 11/0 white and black and Size 15/0 in White or Silver

Fireline thread or any other thread of choice

CrystaLove™ rondelle black bead for the hat 4x6mm

Small amount of TOHO™ Treasure seed beads in colours of your choice for the scarf

Findings for a brooch or pendant

Step 1

To make Mr Snowman we first need to bezel the rivolis with a round peyote stitch using the delica beads. For the 18mm (body) cut approx. a metre and a half of thread and string 46 white size 11 delica beads. Go through these beads again to form a circle and tie the ends together.

Step 1

Step 2

Take the needle through a couple of beads to move away from the knot. Still using size 11 white delica beads, pick up one bead, skip the next bead on the circle and stitch through the next. Pick up another bead and skip the next on the circle. Continue picking up a bead, skipping one and stitching through the next all the way round the circle until back at the start. Refer to photos.

Step 1

Step 3

Here we will need to step up by stitching through the final bead on the circle and the first bead added, see photo no.7.

Step 1

Step 4

Now another round needs to be done in the same way, again stepping up at the end.

Step 1

Step 5

Now change to size 15 delica beads and complete a round of peyote in the same way, this will start to pull the circle tighter. Step up at the end and do another round of 15 delicas, step up. For the last round of peyote, you can either continue like the previous rounds or make it a little more decorative by alternatively adding a bead and leaving a gap, (a gap is created by going through the next two beads)

Step 1

Step 6

Now wind the thread through beads until it exits a bead at the back, ready to do a round of 15 delica beads which will pull the back tighter and encase the rivoli. Before you start this round put the 18mm rivoli into the bezel. Complete three rounds of size 15 delicas and then without adding anymore beads stitch through the last round again this will pull the bezel tight around the rivoli. Mr Snowman’s body is now complete. Tie off thread.

Step 1

Step 2

Step 7

Make the head in the same way using the 16mm rivoli and for this you will need to start with a circle of 40 size 11 delica beads.  Secure threads with several knots.

Step 1

Step 8

The body and head are now complete, and they need to be joined together.

Exit from a white delica bead on the body as shown in photo and attach to bead on head. Go through again to reinforce. Use your judgement as to how many beads to attach here and when you are happy body and neck are joined securely tie of threads.

Step 1

Step 2

Step 9

Now Mr Snowman needs a scarf. Use your own colours and scarf designs here to create unique snowmen. In the examples shown one snowman has a herringbone stitch scarf with red tassels and his friend has a thin scarf of beads wrapped several times around his neck. Both are attached to the body with a couple of stitches to secure them.

Step 10

His hat can be made in a couple of ways. Either a simple peyote circle of black beads (see photos) for the brim with a suitable black bead threaded on and secured to his head or a little beaded top hat (see hat instructions) again attached to head securely.

Step 2

Step 3

Step 11

Now all that's left to decide is whether Mr Snowman will be a brooch or pendant and attach findings of your choice. I look forward to seeing colourful Snowmen and hope you enjoy making them.
